Biography
A winter baby of 1860, William A. Evans first drew breath in Kent’s hedgerowed countryside. Within a handful of years he had swapped the garden smells of southern England for the klieg-light haze of early Hollywood, lending his face and voice to three surviving one-reelers: the matrimonial send-up *The Education of Mr. Pipp* (1914), the oceanic adventure *Across the Broad Pacific* (1912), and the travelogue *China and the Chinese* (1913). The curtain fell for the last time on 2 January 1940, far from both birth and bright lights, in Englewood, New Jersey.
