Biography
Philadelphia greeted William Carr on 6 August 1866, and from that day forward he carved a path through the silent-era film world as both scene-stealing actor and quietly indispensable assistant director. Moviegoers of the 1910s and ’20s met him in Love and Treachery (1912), felt the chill of The Triumph of the Weak (1918), and later savored the marital clash of Wedding Rings (1929). Off-screen, he shared his life—and name—with Mary Carr (I). The final curtain fell in Los Angeles on 13 February 1937, closing a career etched in flickering black-and-white.
