Biography
Born in 1877 beneath the gray skies of Massachusetts, William H. Philbrick stepped onto the stage just as the flicker of cinema was catching fire. Early in the new century he fronted the camera for York State Folks (1915), and fifteen years later traded small-town charm for jungle mayhem in The Gorilla (1930). Off-screen he shared his life with Jessie Ann Bowman Philbrick; together they weathered the leap from silents to talkies. He took his final bow on 20 October 1955 in Chelsea, Boston, the same state that had watched him rise.
