Biography
London welcomed William Jefferson on 25 April 1876, and before the city’s gaslights had dimmed he had already stepped onto the stage. By 1913 he was sprinting across the silent screen in *Wanted by the Police*, followed by the moral compass of *The Right Direction* in 1916 and the tempest of *Out of the Wreck* the next year. Off-camera, he exchanged vows first with Vivian Martin, then with songbird Christie MacDonald. His final curtain fell far from foggy England—on 10 February 1946, under Honolulu’s palms.
