William Magner

Biography

A silent film actor who later turned to a different sort of acting -- as an artist model for pulp magazine covers. Over the course of his long career, William Magner modeled for pulp heroes such as The Shadow and The Spider. His likeness also appeared on numerous cover paintings for detective magazines. He modeled for a series of Sherlock Holmes paperbacks, and occasionally was mistaken for Basil Rathbone.
