Biography
A winter-baby from Canada, William Sorelle arrived on 25 November 1877. Between flickering klieg lights and hand-cranked cameras he built a silent-screen résumé—first as Mephistopheles in 1909’s Faust, then doubling good and evil for 1913’s Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, later swapping crowns in 1915’s The Prince and the Pauper. His final scene unfolded far from any set, among the pines of Tuolumne County, California, on 30 May 1944.
