Biography
A New Rochelle summer greeted Winifred Allen on 1 June 1896, and by nineteen she had stepped from local stages to the bright new flicker of cinema, lighting up 1916’s Seventeen and following it swiftly with two 1917 one-reelers, The Man Who Made Good and The Man Hater. Off-screen she joined hearts and headlines with aviation pioneer Lawrence Sperry. The curtain fell for good on 3 January 1943 in Rochester, New York, but the brief, bright arc of her silents still flickers.
