Biography
Born on 5 February 1879 in partitioned Poland, Witold Kuncewicz stepped onto silent-era screens with the authority of a man who seemed to carry the country’s fractured history in his gaze. Audiences first noticed him as the calculating nobleman in *Carska faworyta* (1918), then winced at his haunted officer in *Grzeszna miłość* (1929) and clenched their fists at his defiant prisoner in *Dziesięciu z Pawiaka* (1931). Each role added another layer to the capital’s growing cinematic lore until, on 13 March 1936, the cameras stopped for good in Warsaw, Mazowieckie, leaving the city’s flickering nickelodeons a little dimmer.
