Synopsis

Esfir Shub’s documentary piece is essentially a high-speed tour of Soviet industrial dreams in the 1930s. It’s all about the Komsomol youth league getting their hands dirty to build power plants and push the nation into the electric age. No actors to speak of, just a lot of wires, turbines, and the raw, unpolished energy of a massive social experiment captured on grainy film.
