Biography
A sharp-eyed storyteller from coastal New England, Abby Sage drew her first breath on 14 October 1837 amid the salt-stung air of Hingham, Massachusetts. She would grow up to inscribe her name on the era’s dime-novel imagination, most memorably scripting the swashbuckling romance The Pride of Jennico released to flickering screens in 1914. Along the way she shared her life with two very different chroniclers of the age—newspaperman Albert Deane Richardson, whose dispatches raced the telegraph wires, and later Daniel A. McFarland. Her own narrative closed on 5 December 1900, far from New England’s pines, in the echoing marble light of Rome, Italy.
