Biography
Shelbyville, Kentucky, greeted Alice Hegan Rice on 11 January 1870, and her pen later welcomed the world into the Cabbage Patch. Between covers and on screens, she spun the tales that became *Sandy* (1918), *Lovey Mary* (1926), and the beloved *Mrs. Wiggs of the Cabbage Patch* (1934). Sharing both life and literary ambition, she joined hearts with fellow writer Cale Young Rice. Her final chapter closed in Louisville, Kentucky, on 10 February 1942.
