Biography
Louisville, Kentucky, welcomed Anthony Coldeway on 1 August 1887, and from that river-city cradle he launched a career that would shuttle him from silent-era invention to talkie craftsmanship. Behind the typewriter and occasionally the camera, Coldeway steered the high-seas tension of Pacific Liner (1939), revived Broadway royalty in Glorious Betsy (1928), and engineered the newsroom thrills of Men of the Hour (1935). When the final curtain fell on 29 January 1963, Los Angeles became the last stop on a journey that had carried one of early Hollywood’s most reliable storytellers from bluegrass beginnings to California sunset.
