Biography

Born on 17 July 1881 in Budapest—then still the glittering heart of Austria-Hungary—Arzén von Cserépy grew into a filmmaker who stitched opulent dreams onto celluloid. Between 1916 and 1922 he steered, shaped, and shepherded projects as disparate as the mystical Nirwâna, the spicy society whirl of Ballskandal, and the regal sweep of Fridericus Rex – Part 1: Sturm und Drang. After three decades of coaxing performances from kings, courtesans, and ghosts alike, he slipped quietly from the stage; his final scene played out in Venezuela, where he died in March 1958.
