Biography
Halloween 1871 delivered Benedict James to the clangorous iron town of Blaenavon, Wales, where furnaces roared louder than the lullabies. From that soot-flecked valley he forged stories instead of steel, sending three of them—The Broken Melody (1916), Snow in the Desert (1919) and Her Penalty (1921)—to flicker across silent screens. Fifty-eight summers after the century turned, he took his last breath in a quiet London street, 14 August 1957, leaving the projectors of the world still humming his name.
