Biography

Blanche MacIntosh drew her first breath in 1877 amid the gas-lamps and hansom cabs of Marylebone, London. From that bustling quarter she spun stories that reached the screen three times: twice as Comin’ Thro’ the Rye—silent in 1916 and then again in 1923—and once as the moorland drama Helen of Four Gates in 1920. She closed her final chapter on 18 November 1954 in Hersham, Surrey, leaving the city of her birth for the quiet of its leafy neighbour.
