Biography
A midsummer baby born in Sala, 1873, Carl Barcklind traded the quiet iron-mine town for greasepaint and footlights, carving out a career that spanned silent shadows and early talkies. In 1914 he stepped before the camera for *De lefvande dödas klubb*, Sweden’s first homegrown horror comedy; nine years later he marshalled the chaos of *Andersson, Pettersson och Lundström* as both actor and steady hand behind the lens; and in 1937 he shipped out one last cinematic voyage with *En sjöman går iland*. Off-screen, two marriages—first to Hilma, then to Georgina—bookended a life spent shuttling between Stockholm stages and film sets. He took his final bow on 21 August 1945, leaving the capital’s August air a little lighter for having carried his voice.
