Biography
A spring day in Nykøbing Mors—13 May 1880—marked the arrival of Carl Gandrup, a storyteller who would grow up to breathe life into Danish silent cinema. Three of his tales leapt from page to screen: the crime yarn *Lykketyven* premiered in 1918, the sports drama *Den sidste Hurdle* dashed into theaters six years earlier, and the scandal-laced *Den Vanærede* shocked audiences in 1915. Off the page, he shared his life with Ingeborg Gandrup, his wife and steadfast companion. He drew his final curtain on 11 August 1936, leaving behind a compact but indelible legacy woven through Denmark’s early film reels.
