Biography
Liverpool delivered Charles Brabin to the world on 17 April 1882, and by his mid-thirties he was already conjuring shadows into stories on silent screens. Between 1918 and 1922 he steered three now-legendary melodramas—Breakers Ahead, While New York Sleeps, and The Lights of New York—each one a flickering postcard from a city that never truly slept. Off-set, his life had its own plot twists: two marriages, first to Susie Jeanette Mosher and later to vamp-queen Theda Bara. The final reel rolled on 3 November 1957 in Santa Monica, California, but the celluloid dreams he spun still hum through projector beams.
