Biography

Born in Indianapolis on a summer day in 1856, Charles Major grew up to trade legal briefs for parchment tales, spinning stories that would outrun his Indiana roots. Under his pen, Tudor roses bloomed in When Knighthood Was in Flower, the perfume of Sweet Alyssum drifted across the screen in 1915, and the courts of Yolanda came alive in 1924. Between courtroom walls and library lamplight he wrote, while Alice Shaw shared his life and name. The journey ended on a winter morning in 1913, in Shelbyville, the same Hoosier soil that had first claimed him fifty-six years earlier.
