Long before silver screens learned to talk, Chester B. Clapp stalked the shadows of nascent Hollywood: he stitched together the primal terror of 1915’s “The Wolf Man,” then swapped fur for fedoras in 1917’s double punch—“New York Luck” and “The Silent Lie.”
