Biography
Edgar James stepped in front of the camera twice during cinema’s infancy—first as the domineering patriarch in *The Master of the House*, then as the man proclaiming *Not Guilty*, both films rushing into 1915 theaters while the world outside was reeling from the Great War. A few years later, he stepped out of the spotlight and into a quieter role: husband to a teenage Paulette Goddard, long before she became a gold-standard leading lady.
