Biography
Edgar Lewis stepped before the camera in 1911, trading footlights for flicker, but by 1913 he had jumped behind it, discovering he preferred orchestrating storms of dust and fisticuffs to weathering them. For the next seventeen years he churned out adrenaline-on-celluloid—westerns that snapped like dry cedar and adventure yarns that roared off cliffs—until 1930, when the talkies lured him back in front of the lens. There he settled into the shadows, lending an anonymous face to crowds and cowboys, his name slipping from marquees but his silhouette still riding across the screen. His last gallop came in Riding Wild (1935); three quiet years later he took his final bow in Los Angeles, 1938.
