Biography
Charlestown, Massachusetts, greeted Edward E. Kidder with a September chill on the fifteenth day of 1848, and from that brisk beginning he spun tales that outlived him by decades. Pen in hand, he conjured the dusty showdowns of Peaceful Valley in 1920, marched audiences alongside Shannon of the Sixth in 1914, and invited them into the genteel heartbreak of A Poor Relation a year after Valley’s release. Off the page, he shared his life with Mary Augusta Raymond, the woman who became his wife and quiet collaborator. Nearly six decades after his first cry on a New England street, his final breath slipped away in New York City on 16 November 1927, closing the book on a storyteller who turned frontier silences and parlour tensions into lasting cinema.
