Biography
Frank Hall Crane first drew breath on New Year’s Day 1873 amid the clang and cable cars of San Francisco. Before Hollywood’s hills echoed with cameras, Crane was already shuttling between greasepaint and megaphone, acting in and steering silents such as 1915’s trio of releases—The Stolen Voice, The Family Cupboard, and Old Dutch. Off-screen, he shared his life with actress Irene M. Titus. Seventy-five years and eight months after that Bay-Area beginning, Crane’s final curtain fell on 1 September 1948 in Woodland Hills, Los Angeles.
