Biography
Chicago greeted Frank Norris on 5 March 1870, and by the time he was thirty-two he had already mapped the raw nerves of American life in prose that would later explode onto silent screens. His ink birthed the epic hunger of McTeague, filmed in 1924 as Greed; the salt-stung adventure Moran of the Lady Letty, brought to life in 1922; and the churning fate of Life’s Whirlpool, captured on celluloid in 1916. Off the page he shared his life with Jeanette Black, his wife and steadfast first reader. The west coast claimed him on 25 October 1902 in San Francisco, but the ripples of his words keep rolling.
