Biography
London, 1864: the curtain rose on Frederick Montague, a restless storyteller who swapped the Thames fog for the klieg-light glare of early Hollywood. Between 1914 and 1916 he slipped three times onto the flickering sheet—first as the gambler-hero of *Cameo Kirby*, then as the rugged pioneer of *The Squaw Man*, and finally as the shadow-veiled lawyer in *The Hidden Law*. Off-screen he sharpened plots with the same pen that once inked love letters to Maurine Rasmussen, the Utah actress who became his wife. Their westward journey ended on 3 July 1919 in Los Angeles, where the California sun set for good on Montague at fifty-five.
