Biography

[ "Frederick (or Frederic) Chapin's professional life was a fascinating tapestry woven from two distinct creative threads. He first gained recognition as a prolific composer, notably penning the score for L. Frank Baum's 1905 stage musical, 'The Woggle-Bug.' His melodious contributions also enriched numerous other productions of the era, including 'The Storks' (1902), 'Pussy in a Corner' (1904), 'The Forbidden Land' (1904), 'The American Girl' (1906), and 'The Maid and the Millionaire' (1907). It was for 'The Maid and the Millionaire' that Chapin broadened his craft, taking on the book and lyrics in addition to the music. This expansion from purely musical composition into narrative and verse proved a harbinger of his future, as he transitioned to Hollywood to establish himself as a screenwriter. However, the pull of composing remained, drawing him back in 1938 to create the score for the distinctive nudist romance, 'Unashamed: A Romance' (1938). Intriguingly, 1938 also saw Chapin adopt the name Fred Fuller for stand-in work, a detail corroborated by the New York Post on February 8, 1938." ]
