Biography

Frederick Orin Bartlett entered the world in 1876 and spent the next six decades turning ink into stories that flickered across early silver screens. Audiences of the late 1910s met his imagination in three rapid bursts: first through the whispered secrets of The Lady in the Library (1917), then the roaring intrigue of The Lion’s Den (1919), and finally the lavish temptations of The Spender that same year. When the final reel of his life ran out in 1945, the projectors stilled, but the plots he spun keep circulating in cinema’s attic.
