Biography
Lamalou-les-Bains, 1879: a thermal spa town exhales steam and a girl named Frédérique De Grésac inhales stories. By 1917 she had alchemized her first screenplay, *The Great Secret*, launching a career that drifted from France’s cafés to Hollywood’s back-lots. In 1930 she anchored the pirate thriller *Hell Harbor*, and eight years later lent continental sparkle to the MGM musical *Sweethearts*. Between plot twists she exchanged vows with opera baritone Victor Maurel. On 20 February 1943, beneath the perpetual sunshine of Los Angeles, her own narrative quietly faded to black.
