Biography
A titan of Italian letters, Gabriele D'Annunzio began his journey on March 12, 1863, in the Adriatic port of Pescara. His storied career as a writer not only defined a generation of literature but also left an indelible mark on the silver screen; his narratives inspired the 1917 silent works 'La luz, tríptico de la vida moderna' and 'La crociata degli innocenti,' and reached mid-century audiences through the 1963 film 'Samson and the Slave Queen.' Married to Maria Hardouin di Gallese, D'Annunzio lived a life as dramatic as his prose until his death on March 1, 1938, in the lakeside retreat of Gardone Riviera, Lombardy.
