Biography
Tippecanoe County, Indiana, greeted George Barr McCutcheon’s first cry on 26 July 1866. In time his pen conjured page-turners that leapt onto the screen—most memorably the riotous fortune-binge of *Brewster’s Millions* in 1914, followed by the swashbuckling *The Man from Brodney’s* in 1923 and the romantic escapade *Beverly of Graustark* in 1926. Off the page he shared his life with Marie Van Antwerp Fay; together they rode the giddy ups and downs of early-20th-century literary celebrity. McCutcheon’s final chapter closed on 23 October 1928, in New York City, but the stories he spun still crackle with adventure and wit.
