Biography

A winter baby from the banks of the Wisconsin River, George Cochran Hazelton first drew breath on 20 January 1868 in Boscobel. While the town was small, his imagination sprawled: he grew into a storyteller whose scripts took flight on early-cinema screens. In 1915 alone, audiences met his haunting verses in *The Raven* and his Restoration-era swordplay in *Mistress Nell*; the following year, *The Ordeal of Elizabeth* carried his name into more theaters. Off-screen, he shared his life with Byrd Crimosa Quin. Hazelton’s final curtain fell on 23 June 1921, in the electric heart of New York City, but the flicker of the stories he spun still lights the corners of silent-film archives.
