Biography
Brooklyn, 1872: George Edwardes-Hall drew his first breath within sight of the East River and spent the next half-century turning that restless energy into stories for the screen. Between 1919 and 1923 he steered three now-lost silents—Nobody’s Child, Judge Her Not and The Prairie Mystery—through the whirl of boom-town Hollywood, earning a reputation as a writer who could also coax fine performances from jittery cameras and faster schedules. Off-set he shared his life with actress Julia Gwynne. On 1 July 1922, less than a year before The Prairie Mystery reached theaters, he died in Los Angeles, leaving behind a compact but vivid legacy etched in flickering light.
