Biography

Barely fifteen when she first stepped into the footlights, Grace Cunard traded Broadway boards for California sunshine in 1910 and walked straight onto a Universal set. There she collided with actor-director Francis Ford; the two spun cliff-hangers together so fast that by 1916 moviegoers had crowned her “The Serial Queen” and the pair ranked among Hollywood’s top attractions. Two years later the magic unraveled—Ford rebuilt his name as a sturdy director and scene-stealing character man through the ’40s, while Cunard slipped down the bill into nickel-budget independents and Saturday-matinée fodder. She kept hustling through quickie westerns and pocket-thrillers until the early 1940s, then quietly took her bow.
