Biography
Bergen greeted the winter air of 25 November 1866 by delivering Hans Wiers-Jenssen, a boy who would grow into the pen behind Et Syndens Barn and the 1913 silent film Children of the Stage; or, When Love Speaks. More than half a century later, the screen again echoed his imagination when Jan Herwitz premiered in 1976, carrying his words beyond his lifetime. Oslo closed his final chapter on 28 August 1925, but the stories he set loose still walk the boards.
