Biography
A spring child of Nîmes—April 4, 1872—Henri Bataille grew into the ink-stained dramatist whose words later flickered across screens from Paris to Warsaw. His plays breathed life into The Private Life of Don Juan (1934), slipped into The Foolish Virgin (1938), and were reborn in Polish as Druga młodość that same year. Yet the man himself never saw the spotlights of cinema: he died quietly on March 2, 1922, in Rueil-Malmaison, a suburban hush outside the capital he had once set alight.
