Biography
Seventeen September 1853: Washington, North Carolina, greeted a restless storyteller named Henry C. DeMille. Pen in hand, he spun popular plays that leapt to the screen decades later—Forty Winks and Men and Women both premiered in 1925, while The Lost Paradise had already flickered into theaters in 1914. Offstage, he shared life and family with Beatrice DeMille until his final curtain fell on 9 February 1893 in Pompton, New Jersey.
