Biography
A Christmas-week baby of 1847, Hugh Conway drew his first breath in Bristol’s foggy harbor streets, then spent the next thirty-seven years spinning tales that outlived him by decades. Page-turners such as *El recuerdo de aquella noche* (brought to screens in 1945), the silent-era chiller *Aunt Rachel* (1920), and the melodrama *The Last Rose of Summer* (also 1920) still carry his byline, though the man himself cashed his final chips in Monte Carlo on 15 May 1885, the Mediterranean sun setting over a roulette wheel he never got to play again.
