Biography
On 27 April 1878, Malden, Massachusetts, greeted the arrival of James Montgomery, a storyteller who would one day gift Broadway three incarnations of *Nothing But the Truth*—the 1929 romp, its sharper 1941 cousin, and the sparkling musical *Irene*. Between curtain calls he shared his life with actress Constance Montague, and on 17 June 1966 the lights dimmed for the final time in New York City, the metropolis that had become both his playground and his home.
