Biography
In 1868, Joe Mitchell Chapple entered the world with ink in his veins and a restless eye for drama. Two decades later he was turning headlines into human stories at the Boston Herald, sharpening the concise style that would later leap from newsprint to screen. 1915 saw his name on Graft, a five-reeler that exposed city-hall corruption with the same punch he once reserved for front-page scoops. Six years afterward he coaxed Poe’s sorrowful muse into flickering life, producing Annabelle Lee, a short that wrapped heartbreak in moonlit fog. When his own final curtain fell on 17 April 1950, it dropped in sun-baked Miami, Florida, closing the book on a man who had already written, edited, and screened his way through eight decades of American storytelling.
