Biography
In the city of brotherly love, Philadelphia, PA, a literary talent emerged in 1871 with the birth of John Thomas McIntyre. Following his high school graduation, McIntyre embarked on a journalistic journey, joining the ranks of "The Times" newspaper, where he crafted compelling stories for the Sunday edition. His writing often delved into the lesser-known aspects of Philadelphia, shedding light on the city's impoverished districts, and resonating with readers. This early success paved the way for his first published book, "The Ragged Edge", which debuted in 1902, essentially a collection of his newspaper stories woven into a larger narrative. As his career progressed, McIntyre's creative scope expanded to the stage, with several of his plays making their mark on Broadway. A notable highlight came in 1936, when his novel "Steps Going Down" was selected as the US representative in the prestigious All-Nations Prize Novel Competition, ultimately claiming the top prize of $4,000. McIntyre's life came full circle, as he passed away in his hometown of Philadelphia in 1951.
