Biography
Toledo, Ohio, welcomed Junie McCree on 15 February 1865, and from that river-town start she spun stories that traveled farther than any train of the day. Her pen sketched the carnival life of Coney Island for the 1943 film of the same name, revived the cliff-hanger spirit of 1915’s The Man Who Beat Dan Dolan, and still whispered secrets through the code-laced dialogue of 2001’s Enigma. Off the page, she shared her life with Isabella Milnes. McCree’s final curtain fell in New York City on 13 January 1918, but the tales she set loose keep racing ahead of time.
