Biography
Amewrican novelist Marie Conway Oemler was born in Savannah, GA, in 1879. Although she had some private-school and public-school education, she was mostly home-schooled. She married at 22 years of age and didn't begin writing until she was in her late 30s, when her novel "Slippy McGee" (1917) was published. This story about a charming rogue eventually became a best-seller and was made into two movies (Slippy McGee (1923), Slippy McGee (1947)). She wrote several more novels and was a regular contributor of articles to "Woman's Home Companion" and other magazines. She died of heart disease in Charleston, SC, in 1932.
