Biography

On a winter’s day, 12 January 1875, Marika Stiernstedt drew her first breath in Sweden, launching a life that would unfurl across the printed page. Over the decades she conjured worlds that became cinema: the stern elegance of *The Governor’s Daughters* arrived in 1915; the cutting social satire of *Banketten* flickered onto screens in 1948; and the haunting memoryscape of *Man glömmer ingenting* was published in 1942. She wrote steadily, her pen rarely resting, until 25 October 1954, when she closed her final chapter in the same country that had once welcomed her newborn cry.
