Biography
Born the day before summer bloomed in 1876, Atlanta native May Futrelle grew up amid magnolia-scented streets and later traded them for the flicker of silent-film studios. Between the clatter of typewriter keys she crafted the breezy romantic comedy “The Secretary of Frivolous Affairs,” released in 1915, a title that still whispers of jazz-age mischief. Off the page she shared her life with fellow storyteller Jacques Futrelle until fate—aboard the Titanic—tore him away. She carried on for another half-century, her final chapter closing on 29 October 1967 in the salt-tinged quiet of Scituate, Massachusetts.
