Biography
Michel Carré first drew breath on 20 October 1821 in the watch-making city of Besançon, Doubs. While the 19th-century stage knew him as a playwright and librettist, cinema still whispers his name thanks to distant echoes: Match Point (2005), Jojo Rabbit (2019) and The Adventures of Tintin (2011) all adapted works that had once passed through his pen. His final curtain fell on 27 June 1872 in Argenteuil, Val-d’Oise, where the Seine bends past the painters’ rooftops he never lived to see.
