Biography

Michel Verne first drew breath on 3 August 1861 amid the gaslit boulevards of Paris. Between clacking typewriters and flickering projector reels, he shaped stories for the screen—steering the destinies of Jean Morénas in 1916, venturing into the coal-black gorges of *Les Indes noires* the following year, and sailing the globe in 1914’s *In Search of the Castaways*. Off-set, he shared his life with two wives—Jeanne Raboul and later Clémence-Thérèse Taton. His own final curtain fell on 5 March 1925 in the sun-washed port city of Toulon, Var.
