Biography
New York’s clamor greeted Owen Frawley Kildare on 11 June 1864, and the city never let him go. Under gas-lamp glow he learned its slang and sorrow, then funneled both into stories that crackled across nickelodeon screens: The Regeneration shocked audiences in 1915, and nine years later Fools Highway carried them back into the same restless streets he knew by heart. Between those triumphs he married Lelta Russell Bogardus, the woman who kept pace with his quick pen and quicker moods. On 4 February 1911 the metropolis that inspired him stilled his pulse forever, still echoing with the characters he had set loose.
