Biography
Phil Lang entered the world in 1886 amid the quiet streets of Xenia, Ohio, and spent the next thirty-two years turning ink into spectacle. Between 1914 and 1919 he supplied Broadway with three very different librettos: a razor-shaw revival of The School for Scandal, the lavish musical fantasy The Black Crook, and the crime-driven thriller The Third Degree. His final curtain fell on 24 January 1919 in Manhattan, the city that had become his professional playground.
