Biography
Born beneath the bluegrass skies of Cynthiana, Kentucky, on 16 September 1869, Richard Ridgely grew into a silent-era storyteller who both called the shots and stepped before the camera. Between 1914 and 1915 he steered three now-fabled one-reelers—Meg o' the Mountains, Eugene Aram, and The Destroying Angel—haunting screens with mountain feuds, Gothic guilt, and celestial vengeance. Off-set he shared his life with leading lady Cleo Ridgely. Fifty-eight autumns after his first cry on the Kentucky frontier, he drew his last breath on 30 November 1949 in Bay Shore, Long Island, leaving behind the flickering shadows that still whisper his name.
